As a role of as standard BJJ class you'll generally study some fresh techniques, drill those techniques with a teammate, and then do some sparring.
How many hours have you obtained that technique you just learned and attempted it in sparring, just to have it flop poorly? It's occurred to me many times, and I understand it can be very stressful.
Well don't be too hard on yourself. The universal rule is that techniques once in a while work on the day that they're instructed.
Why is that?
Most people will be merely calcareous it up to not having had enough rehearsal time to make the technique natural. Their suggestion is consistently to grant it more duration and experiment to personalize the moves.
That's good suggestion, but it's only an incomplete illustration. What about persons who watch a technique in a book or DVD, and after that prosperously use in their next sparring session with slight drilling or no drilling? This occurs to me all the time, and I understand that I'm not alone.
Consequently, how on earth can be the techniques you learn from a book or DVD ever work better than the techniques you practically well informed and drilled in class?
It's truthfully pretty easy. The primary cause a technique hardly ever works on same day that it's instructed is that your sparring teammates are on high view for it. After all, they just saw, knowledgeable and drilled the very same technique.
Let's suppose that you exactly learned a brand new guard sweep in class. To use it when you spar. You have to arrange it up by taking your grips, changing your hips, you're arranging body posture, etc., Unless he's brain-dead, your opponent will be able to scan the gestures and drawing out what you're trying to do.
Now it's a lot easier for him to block a technique than it is for you to apply it. If your sparring partner knows exactly what you want to do, then you have to be really good at a technique to catch him with it.
If you study and drill a technique enough after that you'll finally get, to a degree, where you can severely perform it and systematically execute it, even opposing a good opponent who experiences certainly what's approach. In fact, that's the ultimate goal for every technique, but that is normally not accomplish able over the period of a single class...
As a result, if a technique doesn't work on the same day that it's instructed, don't hopelessness!
Just carry on visualizing and attempting the technique, allow a day or two go by and afterwards try it once again. Generally, you'll meet that the same technique now works flawlessly and captures your sparring teammate absolutely flat-footed.
Have a good practice!
